Skin Deep is a wearable project that explores the concepts of childhood trauma, indoctrination, and healing. I made it from papers that I recycled, with hand-written text and threads. The text is difficult to read, adding a layer of emotional complexity to the work, and creating a sense of intimacy with the viewer, as they have to try to understand and interpret the text, since it is related to personal trauma and experiences.

I experimented with different elements while recycling, some papers have layers of printed text beneath, others have colored threads from my childhood clothes. I tinted the papers with coffee to symbolize the warmth of memories, with the white representing innocence and purity. I then sewed layers of papers together, creating a wearable project. The threads connecting words and pages and the fragile texture emphasize the fragility of my inner child and how difficult experiences remain under the skin like hidden scars.
